What is K-Pass?

K-Pass is South Korea's public-transit refund program launched on May 1, 2024. It refunds a percentage of the fare you pay for buses, subways, and most rapid transit lines — paid out two months after travel. Refund rates are 20% (general), 30% (youth aged 19–34), and 53% (low-income recipients of basic livelihood or near-poverty support). You must take at least 15 qualifying trips in the prior month. Nationwide K-Pass caps refunds at 60 trips per month, while The Gyeonggi Pass and the Incheon I-Pass remove the cap and extend the youth bracket to age 39. The previous Altteul Transit Card (2019–April 2024) tied mileage to walking and biking distance; K-Pass replaces it with a flat usage-based refund.

Refunds accrue the month after travel and are paid the following month to the linked card account or K-Pass app wallet. Example: May usage → June accrual → July payout.

What ages qualify for the youth rate?

Nationwide K-Pass: 19–34. The Gyeonggi Pass and Incheon I-Pass extend the youth rate to age 39.

What happens beyond 60 trips per month?

Nationwide K-Pass caps refunds at 60 trips. Gyeonggi and Incheon programs have no cap and refund every trip.

Which transit modes are eligible?

Nationwide city, town and inter-city buses, the subway, Shinbundang Line and GTX qualify. KTX, SRT and long-distance buses do not.

Is K-Pass a bigger refund than the old Altteul Card?

Heavy walkers and cyclists earned more from Altteul mileage, but commuters with short transfers usually get more from K-Pass. The Altteul Card was merged into K-Pass on May 1, 2024.

Rates and caps reflect the K-Pass program as of May 23, 2026. Results may change when the policy is revised.
